Purple Agate is a type of microcrystalline Quartz called Chalcedony. This group includes stones such as Jasper, Onyx, Carnelian and Agate. Chalcedony stones are usually found in cracks and cavities where volcanic activity took place.
The use of this stone by humans can be traced all the way back to Neolithic Sicily. In fact, Agate gets its name from the Sicilian river Achates. Agates were also used in ancient Egypt, Crete and other early civilizations around the world. This Purple Agate disc pendant measures 5cm approx in diameter and is suspended from a 19 Inch 925 Silver chain. As a birthstone, agate is associated with the months of May, June, and September. As a gemstone, it is associated with the Zodiac signs Gemini and Capricorn.
