Brown agate is considered as royal agate stone and more famously called “Botswana Agate”. It is mined for its beauty and rarity. Most of the brown agate stones mined today come from Botswana (hence the name) and come in nature with beautiful layers and patterns with white, black, different shades of gray color and sometimes with salmon or pink lines. Throughout history, brown agate was used for carvings, making jewelry, as talismans and amulets. This beautifully polished Brown Agate Dounut measures 4cm approx in diameter and is suspended from a 26 Inch Black Braided chord accompanied by several small glass beads. The traditional birthstone of May is Agate, which was associated to the month by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. The name “Agate” comes from where the stone was first mined over 3000 years ago, the Achates River in Sicily.
